Backdrop

An attribute of an upgraded Telegram gift that sets the colour and pattern behind the model. One of three random attributes that determine the gift's rarity and resale value.

Aliases: gift backdrop, telegram gift background

A backdrop is the background colour and pattern assigned to a Telegram gift at upgrade time. It is one of three rolled attributes alongside the model variant and symbol.

What the backdrop affects

  • Visuals — colour, gradient or texture displayed behind the gift figure.
  • Rarity — each backdrop has a drop weight fixed at collection launch. Some (e.g. “Onyx”, “Golden”) are rare; others are baseline.
  • Price — on secondary marketplaces, items with rare backdrops trade for many multiples of plain ones, even when the model is identical.

How it is assigned

The backdrop is drawn at random from the pool defined by the collection. Telegram publishes the list of possible backdrops and their weights, so traders can compute an expected value before paying the upgrade fee.

Once set, the backdrop is written into the TEP-64 metadata of the NFT and cannot be changed.

Context on TON

Marketplaces such as Portals and Tonnel let users filter a collection’s listings by a specific backdrop, which makes targeted “hunts” practical. Analytics dashboards (Plebs Bot, Tonscan) display real-time distributions of minted items across backdrops.
