Telegram Premium

Telegram Premium is the paid Telegram subscription launched by Pavel Durov in 2022. By 2026 it has become a core direct revenue source for Telegram (alongside Telegram Ads and Stars), letting the messenger lean less on pure advertising and tokenisation.

What is included

The 2026 perk set (constantly evolving):

• Doubled limits — more channels and subscriptions, more folders, more pinned chats.
• File uploads up to 4 GB versus 2 GB for free users.
• Exclusive animated premium stickers.
• Extended reactions — more emoji, custom emoji.
• Auto voice-to-text transcription.
• Priority on bot and server load.
• The star badge next to the username (a status marker).
• Ability to disable ads in public channels.

TON connection

Premium accepts three payment paths:

• Standard methods — cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, regional wallets.
• Telegram Stars — the in-app currency that users buy with fiat and spend on Premium, creator content, channel boosts.
• TON via Fragment — a TON-native flow: the user opens fragment.com, signs in with Telegram, pays for Premium in TON.

The first Telegram account to pay for Premium with TON appeared in 2023; in 2024-2026 this became one of the most visible on-chain TON use cases — it shows up clearly in any TON network metrics dashboard.

Gifting Premium

Telegram lets users gift Premium to another user via the “Gift Premium” button in profile. The TON-via-Fragment price is often lower than App Store / Google Play (where Apple and Google take their cut). Power users gift Premium to themselves through Fragment to save money.

What it does not do

• Does not remove ads everywhere — they are absent from personal chats anyway, but the Telegram Ad Platform still shows promo posts in large public channels until the channel admin pays for channel-level Premium.
• Does not unlock admin features (those live in the separate Boost / channel-Premium track).
• Does not bypass KYC on Telegram-internal crypto services (Wallet, Fragment).
