Notcoin
Tap-to-earn Telegram mini-app launched in 2024 and the associated NOT jetton, distributed to players in one of the largest airdrops in the TON ecosystem.
Aliases: not, not token
Notcoin is a Telegram mini-app and the NOT jetton that came out of it. Released in early 2024, the game became a viral on-ramp for tens of millions of Telegram users into the TON ecosystem and set the template for the wave of tap-to-earn projects that followed.
How the game worked
The gameplay loop was intentionally minimal:
- Open the mini-app from a Telegram bot link.
- Tap a gold coin on screen to spend a refilling energy bar and rack up in-game points.
- Buy passive boosters, invite friends, join “squads” that competed on public leaderboards.
- Farm a balance of off-chain points that would later define airdrop allocation.
The viral hook was social rather than mechanical: squad leaderboards and a referral system turned the mini-app into a feed people shared in group chats. Player counts ran into the tens of millions across the active phase.
The NOT jetton drop
After the farming phase ended, the team minted NOT as a jetton on TON (TEP-74 standard) and distributed it to players based on their accumulated in-game balances. The token was listed almost immediately on major exchanges, including Binance, which gave it instant deep liquidity. For many recipients this was a first encounter with an on-chain asset — wallets were created in the background, tokens landed in the built-in Telegram Wallet or in Tonkeeper, and users could trade or withdraw without ever installing a separate crypto app.
Why it matters
- Mass-onboarding proof. Notcoin demonstrated that the combination of a Telegram mini-app, a jetton drop, and a CEX listing is a viable funnel for bringing millions of mainstream users on-chain.
- A template for clones. Hamster Kombat, Catizen, DOGS, and dozens of smaller projects reused the “play, farm points, wait for the drop” pattern.
- TON ecosystem alignment. The drop was distributed via TON wallets and the token lives natively as a jetton, anchoring the project to TON’s infrastructure.
Life after the drop
Post-airdrop, Notcoin moved into the typical token lifecycle: volatility, a steep drop in casual user attention, and attempts to evolve the original mini-app into a “Notcoin Explore” hub that hosts quests and rewards for other TON projects. NOT itself is positioned as the reward currency for that explore-to-earn surface.
What endures
- NOT remains one of the most liquid non-stablecoin jettons on TON.
- The mini-app pioneered season-based quests and social farming as an industry pattern.
- A meaningful share of new TON wallets created during the Notcoin window stayed in the ecosystem as holders or DeFi users — the exact retention is debated, but the cohort is large enough to matter.
Notcoin is best understood not as a game but as a marketing-and-infrastructure experiment that proved Telegram could pull mainstream users into Web3 at unprecedented scale.
